The Zagora Marathon & Half Marathon is organised by the Moroccan legend Lahcen Ahensal 10 times winner of the Marathon des Sables (Sand Marathon).
The race (42km 195m for the Marathon and 21km 100m for the Half-Marathon) is open to athletes of all levels (Men & Women). The itinerary is challenging and varied (Road - City centre of Zagora – Palm Grove area of Zagora – Sand Dunes - Draa Valley – Foothill of the Djebel (Mountain) Zagora (ascent of 350m)…

Water stations are located every 5 to 6 km.
Departure Time (Marathon & Half Marathon): 09h00
Time limit: Marathon 7hours – Half Marathon 3hours
Altitude: 1100 metres
Temperature: around 20°C

Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival to Ouarzazate Airport – Assistance and transfer to Belere Hotel 4**** or similar in Ouarzazate

Day 2: Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Zagora – Check in at the hotel in Zagora (Ksar Tinsouline 4**** or Palais Asmaa 4*** or similar) – Dinner and overnight

Day 3: A day a leisure (visit of the Marathon village) – Dinner and overnight at the hotel

Day 4: Marathon day – Dinner & Overnight at the hotel

Day 5: Breakfast at the hotel and transfer back to Ouarzazate (Dinner and overnight at the hotel

ZAGORA

An incredible drive along the Draa valley will bring you into Zagora, which is an outpost in the deep south suitable as a base for excursions into the Sahara by land rover or camel. Famously on the edge of town is the signpost indicating Timbuktou, which use to be a 52 days journey across the desert by camel.
