The Marathon des Cèdres has all the potentials to attract participants / runners from all over the world - Organised by:  Abdelkader El Mouaziz (Two-time winner of the London Marathon in 1999 and 2001 - New York Marathon in 2001 and Marrakech Marathon in 1996 – 1997 – 1999…)

Ifrane view

The city of Ifrane, located at 1650 metres altitude, is annually visited by many endurance athletes from home and abroad seeking to train in its rarefied atmosphere.

Many world known athletes have regularly trained in Ifrane i.e. Hicham El Guerrouj, Abdelkkader El Mouaziz, Abderrahim El Goumri, Jaouad Gharib…

Ifrane is a picturesque small town nestled in the Middle Atlas Mountains which is home the largest cedar forest in North Africa and is the most biologically diverse area in Morocco. The ski slopes of Michlifin and Hebri are about 25 minutes from the city centre. The imperial cities of Meknes and Fez are an hour (65 kilometres) from Ifrane. The capital city of Rabat on the Atlantic coast is 2 hours from Ifrane; the Sahara desert is just 6 hours.

An international athletics academy that meets the requirements of modern training is under construction in Ifrane on a four-hectare plot of land. The future Mohammed VI Academy, with an estimated cost of 88 million Dirhams (8 million euro), is intended to cater for foreign athletes as well as to promoting and assisting national sporting fortunes.

In addition to its training facilities the Mohammed VI Academy will also feature a sports medicine centre and two large weight rooms, physiotherapy and massage rooms, a sauna and a medical centre. Both senior- and junior-level athletes will be able to train there

Marathon Rules

Article I: The province of Ifrane organises under the aegis of the Royal Moroccan Athletic Federation (F.R.M.A) the 3rd Marathon des Cèdres in Ifrane from the 10th to 13th June 2010.

Article II: Participation in the Marathon des Cèdres is open to men and women over 18 years of age (with or without a licence)

Article III: The registration fee includes the race Entry + Accommodation on Half Board:  The fees are 200 Euros for foreign runners / 1000 MDH for Moroccan Residents

Article IV: the total distance of the Marathon is 88 Km, From Zaouiat Oued Ifrane Village to the city of Ifrane, and split into 4 stages:

1st Stage: 17 Km, Zaouiate oued Ifrane Village to Ajâabou/Aïn Leuh site

2nd Stage: 38 Km, From Ajâabou to Moudmam site

3rd Stage: 15 Km, From Moudmam to Michlifen

4th Stage: 18 Km, From Michlifen to the city of Ifrane

Article V: It is compulsory for each runner to complete the 4 stages of the race in order to be listed in the final ranking - Any withdrawal from a stage will result in a disqualification from the overall race

Article VI: The final ranking of the Marathon will be done by adding the points of each stage – the winner would be the one who accumulated less points

There will be general ranking for Men and for Women Le   Article VII: Prizes: There will be 2 categories of prizes – prizes for the Marathon the first 10 winners Men & Women and the prizes for stage winners (the first 3 winners of each stage - Men & Women)

Article VIII: All the participants in the race have to sign a disclaimer for acceptance of the rules and regulations of the Marathon and presented to the organisers before the 4th June 2010

Article VIX: The organisers are not responsible for any loss of personal property - You must be in good health and physically prepared to undertake the challenges of a marathon - Each competitor must be in the possession of an individual accident insurance covering all possible costs

Race Entry & Travel Arrangements

8 June 2010: Flight from London to Fes – Assistance and transfer to your hotel in Fes

9 June 2010: Breakfast at the hotel – City Tour of Fes then transfer to Ifrane – Meeting with the rest of the runners, briefing about the race and pick up of the Race Number – at 18:00 Transfer to Zaouiate Oued Ifrane  - Dinner and overnight

10 June 2010: Depart of the first stage of the race at 09:00 (17 Km including 9 Km through the forest) from Zawiat Oued Ifrane to Ajaabou Ain Leuh (Altitude varies from 1200 m to 1750 m) - Prizes presentation for the winners of the stage  - Dinner & overnight

11 June 2010: Depart of the 2nd Stage of the Race at 09:00 (38 KM including 20 Km through the forest), from Ajaabou Ain Leuh to Moudman Bensmim (Altitude varies from 1550 m to 1900 m) - Prizes presentation for the winners of the stage  - Dinner & overnight

12 June 2010: Depart of the 3rd Stage of the Race at 09:00 (15 KM including 9 Km through the forest), from Moudman Bensmim to Michlifen (Altitude varies from 1750 m to 2000 m) - Prizes presentation for the winners of the stage  - Dinner & overnight

13 June 2010: Depart of the 4th Stage of the Race at 09:00 (18 KM including 9 Km through the forest), from Michlifen to Ifrane (Altitude varies from 2000 m to 1600 m) - Prizes presentation for the winners of the stage and the overall winners of the Race - Gala Dinner & overnight in the hotel

14 June 2010: Transfer back to Fes – the rest of the day at leisure – Dinner and overnight at the hotel

15 June 2010: Transfer to Fes Airport for the return flight to London
